Insurance Web Design
Strum Insurance is an independent insurance broker operating four offices throughout Nova Scotia. Its main office in Windsor, NS, is in its third generation of family ownership, having started in 1917.
The challenge: insurance web design
A deal too good to be true – The organization had a website that sounded good and looked okay, but had several major issues. Created by a non-Canadian company for a too-good-to-miss price, it was riddled with spelling and grammar errors, and had duplicate content everywhere you looked (this is a no-no for most search engines, especially Google).
Worse, it was bombarded with keywords intended (by the design company) to benefit the client, but instead made the viewer want to click off the site as soon as possible. On top of that, the site was difficult to manage on the back end.
Another aspect of the challenge was that insurance is a highly regulated industry. As such, there are scads of metrics and “industry standards” that had to be accounted for. It made for what I felt was a very interesting combination of artistry and design.
Although initially we tried to clean up the existing theme, it quickly became obvious that it would take at least as long to do a cleanup as it would to start fresh. And the more I dug into the existing site, the more adamant I became that we needed to start fresh!
We moved the web hosting away from one of the highly-advertised major companies to a Canadian company with a solid reputation for performance and support. Working closely with the client, we came up with a design that blew the old website away – literally.
Launched in conjunction with a new social marketing strategy, this new website design will be a key player in Strum’s upcoming year.
