The Windsor Day Care is a nonprofit organization offering quality childcare to the families and children of West Hants, Nova Scotia, since 1976. My own children attended this facility until they started school, so this project was of particular interest to me.
In 2012 when I first took over the management of the existing website, it was (in my opinion) in desperate need of an overhaul. This was done, and the site was okay… but not “wow”. It wasn’t until 2015 that the site became “wow”!
The challenge: Daycare web design
For most nonprofit organizations, a lack of technical skills inhouse to manage a website is one of the most common problems. And “web design” is almost never included in a small nonprofit’s annual budget. I created a new site for the daycare based on wordpress, one of my favourites CMS (content management systems). It’s easily adapted for new and additional users.
This particular website offers a rotating weekly menu, instead of creating a new one each week – a huge timesaver for the volunteer hours involved. It also includes lots of event features, activity galleries, and facility image galleries.
In 2015, with a brand-new board of directors and a new vision, the website was overhauled again. Now it’s one of my personal favourites. Their logo was also updated, as the existing logo was poor quality and not suitable for most website work.
With a fun, animated background and lots of cute graphics provided by the theme, it’s a great theme for a daycare website.
