14 Bells Fine Art Gallery is the newest art gallery in Halifax. Located in the unique and historic Hydrostone Market, its very name and logo are tributes to the Fort Needham monument to the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Cheryl Bell, owner and gallerina extraordinaire, just happens to share the surname.

Deliverables

As a startup business, 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery didn’t need a full-fledged e-commerce website – at least, not yet! In consultation with the owner, we decided to create a website on the platform provided by Shopify. With a great theme, we “turned off” the e-commerce function for now. We also made numerous other customizations in order to provide a gorgeous display of the fine art showcased by the gallery.

One of the primary concerns was that as an e-commerce platform, the default language is all about “products”. Artists balk – and with good reason – at calling their creations such a superficial and rather insulting name. With time and effort, we were able to make sure the language used throughout the site respects both gallery clients and artists alike.

Results

The logo is clean, dramatic and easily adapted for various print and online purposes. As the business evolves, the website can easily be adapted to add the e-commerce functionality back into the design.

With 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery opening its doors in March 2017, we predict a lot of great and wonderful things for this new business.
